'As a small child in junior school I remember walking along the canal in summer and always found it pleasant, if you were lucky enough you could sit on the edge and dangle your feet in the water. In Winter I was a very different story, also very dangerous as on our way home from school we used to walk and try to skate over the frozen water.'
