Supporting children and young people to process emotions in a positive way isn’t easy. To help empower schools to use art as a way of exploring and expressing health and wellbeing, Tameside Population Health and Cultural Services teams commissioned local artists interference-art to co-create a resource with Silver Springs Primary Academy.
Over the course of a school year from 2018 - 2019 artists, staff from TOG Mind and Stalybridge Yr 4 pupils and their teacher worked together to test and trial different creative approaches to wellbeing. What started as a tentative pilot went from ‘let’s see…’ to the roll out of a fully fledged resource to all primary schools in Tameside, with requests from health workers and beyond. During the COVID 19 pandemic, the resource was revised to 7 arty activities that help families think, talk and find a way through, and practice wellbeing skills. The Arty Wellbeing at Home resource was printed and included in food packages for vulnerable families, during lockdowns and became a FREE download for printing or use on mobile devices: https://www.tameside.gov.uk/SocialCareServices/Public-Health/Arty-Wellbeing-at-Home
